Heroes & Villains
New Works by Chris Arnold, Eli Libson & CHema Skandal!
July 6-28, 2019
BYOB Opening Reception
Saturday, July 6, 7-10pm
For our July exhibit we’ve invited three artists, each with their own distinct style, to interpret two of the most basic archetypes: the hero and the villain.
Chicago-based artist Chris Arnold has a very distinctive black & white illustrative style packed with detail that we just love. Since the late 1990’s his award-winning artwork and commercial illustration has been exhibited worldwide, with featured shows in Asia, Europe and North America, including a great exhibit at our own gallery in 2016. He has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and Illinois Institute of Art–Chicago and is currently an Assistant Professor at Columbia College.
Eli Libson is a Minnesota-based painter, sculptor and CG artist with the heart of a kid. His art is born from his love of cartoons and fantasy movies, and his purpose hasn’t changed since age 4, and that is to take us on a magical ride by creating unique and beautiful worlds. For this exhibit he has explored pop culture icons and re-imagined them as mechanical robots — the heroes and villains of the artificial intelligence enchanced future!
CHema Skandal! is a graphic artist from México City that has called Chicago home since 2011. An enthusiast of popular graphics and traditional printing techniques, his work reflects parallel universes, polysemic and is often inspired by popular culture ( mostly music and cartoons ) as well as social issues. His work is 99% hand-made and has been featured in a wide range of mediums from fanzines, newspapers, magazines and from gig posters to illustration catalogues and fine art exhibitions all around the globe. For “Heroes & Villains” he presents all new work containing what we could see as good or evil characters, some that could inhabit an imaginary universe but that are definitely based out of our raw, amazing reality.
Join us the evening of Saturday, July 6, 7-10pm for the opening reception of “Heroes & Villains.” We'll have music by DJ Sean Doe, plus complimentary snacks and soft drinks...and if you'd like to BYOB, we're just across the street from the wonderful Beermiscous!
All three artists will be in attendance at the opening reception so please do stop by and say hello.
Exhibit continues through July 28, 2019.
